In Wisconsin, we spend the summer playing outside. We’re willingly distracted by the warm weather and the sunny days because we know in a few short months, those days will be gone.
September and October are full of other activities – back to school, the start of football season, kid activities, one last camping trip before the fall chill sets in…
November and December are consumed by the holidays.
January is time for a bit of much-needed relaxation and recovery.
But now it’s February – also known as the “countdown to cabin fever.”
Yet, I have to admit, these cold days have some real advantages. Winter is my creative season. This is when I pull out my easel and paint again. This is when I make time to curl up with a good book on the couch with a mug of hot cocoa. This is when I try a new recipe in the kitchen or a new class at the gym. Winter is my time to explore, try new things, and grow as a person.
Do you have projects that you gravitate toward when the outside forces are keeping you in?
I bet you do, and I bet they are creative in nature.
Use your creativity to boost your promotions
Everyone is creative in some way or another.
Perhaps you’re a writer. Perhaps you’re a baker. Maybe you’re a teacher or an organizer…
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it. They just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.” – Steve Jobs
Now is the time to own that talent and use it to your advantage! Tell the world about the things you already see.
Social media is a great way to showcase creativity. Why not take this time to use that creativity and to promote your business. (That’s what we call marketing.)
- Bake something and review the recipe on Facebook.
- Take some photos – show off what you’ve been up to on Instagram.
- Teach your audience something they might not know.
- Read and review a book
